Traveling West

We left St. Louis on Friday morning. Friday night we stayed at a Walmart in Oklahoma City. We actually stopped at a Walmart between Tulsa and Oklahoma City first but Nathan didn’t feel good about staying there so after we made dinner we continued on to a bigger area. We made good enough time that we were able to have short driving days the next two days. It was so nice to go outside on Saturday morning in a short sleeved shirt! :)

Saturday night we drove until Amarillo. There isn’t much available for overnight anywhere outside of Amarillo if you are traveling on I-40 so that is why there were 9 or so campers in the lot with us. :) Unfortunately a cold front came through so the short sleeves are back in the closet. Tonight we are at a KOA in Bernalilo, NM. This is the KOA we stayed at right after we purchased our Allstar. We were going to stay at the Cummins because they are going to fix an oil leak in the morning but it was a bad area so we decided to just pay for a campground so we could dump and fill up with water. If we need to be in NM tomorrow night we will probably just stay at a Walmart. Once we leave here we are headed to the Grand Canyon.

Sorry I have been late in my updates. I had to catch up with real work before I could play. We got into Atlanta late on Thursday. We were still packing stuff in the house on Thursday morning and we stopped and had lunch in the Boro with Nathan’s parents. Our site was beautiful and right on the lake. We spent most of Friday with Andrea (my sister-in-law) and her girls. Friday was their youngest, Meghan’s 2nd birthday. We had pizza and cupcakes with them after my brother Tim got home from work.

Saturday we got up EARLY and went to the Georgia Aquarium with Tim and Andrea, their two girls, Nathan’s parents (they drove up for the day) and a friend of Samantha’s that used to go to school with her and moved to Atlanta. Here are a couple of pictures:

We left around lunchtime and started driving towards New Mexico. We ended up stopping around midnight about an hour from Oklahoma in Arkansas somewhere. Nathan didn’t sleep long and was back on the road by 4:30! We are now driving through Oklahoma right in the path of tropical depression Erin! I just checked the forecast and there is a tornado watch and flash flood warnings…. what a great time to drive through Oklahoma! Here are some pictures of the flooding in Oklahoma:

The good part is as soon as we get through it there is no rain or weather of significance through Texas or New Mexico. Nathan is figuring we will be in Albuquerque by this afternoon and since Aloha is open until 5:00 we may be able to at least look at our new home. Definitely wouldn’t mind taking it today but that is unlikely.
