GSU Art Festival

Last weekend we went to the Art Festival at GSU. The first thing that we saw was a portable foundry. GSU had bought 100 plates to give out for free and we were able to get one of them. Here is a picture of the foundry, our plate before the metal was poured and the finished product…

Here are the kids painting…

And balloon animals….

Girl Scout Outings

Family Fun, Georgia, Scouting No Comments

Although Timmy gets to go to a few Cub Scout meetings while we are in Statesboro, the Girl Scouts do not have any regular meetings while we are here. They have a few group activities so we plan on participating in those. One of the activities was folding and bagging pocket flags for the soldiers. Here is Samantha holding one of the flags with the other scouts in front of the table full of the bagged flags…

The next week we met them at Ft. Stewart to hand the flags out to the soldiers. Samantha read something to the soldiers that told them what each fold of the flag stood for. The other Girl Scout that came read the poem that was included with the flags. Here are the girls while Samantha was reading and a picture of the girls in front of the soldiers and by one of the trucks.

This Saturday we have a Sock Hop and before we leave we have a sleepover at the mall! :) She is really looking forward to it. We are going to sign her up for some of the camps while we are in Pennsylvania this summer. Nathan has Timmy signed up for camping events all summer. :)

A Cub Scout Drinks Tequila???

Family Fun, Georgia, Scouting No Comments

I am laughing so hard right now!! Nathan was going over the cub scout laws with Timmy. He told him that a cub scout follows Akela. My mom was in here washing dishes and what she heard was, “A Cub scout drinks tequila!”

I will update tonight with pictures of Timmy in uniform and Samantha in her girl scout uniform since we are now undertaking both.

Swimming Lessons

We are back in Statesboro for 2 months. So… I looked up the swimming lesson schedule and they will be able to take 2 sessions of classes. Here are pictures from the first week. It is hard to get pictures of Samantha and Timmy. Samantha’s class is farther away from me and Timmy is always under water when I try to get his picture. :)

Here is Samantha in her class…

This is Timmy swimming on his back with a kickboard…

And one of Joshua practicing swimming with his face in the water…

In other news… Samantha and Timmy have both taken their annual standardized tests this week. Joshua had his 4-year checkup yesterday and he is growing perfectly. He had his hearing and vision checked and he actually saw the first two lines with his bad eye. I was so proud!! His good eye was 20/20 so that is good. The only concern the doctor had was that Joshua’s speech should be better so we will have to work on him being more understandable. Right now everyone is enjoying being in good weather. The bikes are down and we have been spending a lot of time outdoors.

Welcome to our home Tinkerbell

Family Fun, Georgia No Comments

Although Nathan will never believe me, today I went to Petco just to pet some dogs. I had absolutely no intention of bringing one home. We drove over to look at what dogs were up for adoption. While we were there, Nathan’s mom decided to adopt a little Golden puppy named Popeye. This is a biggie for her because she doesn’t usually like dogs. In the crate next to Popeye was a little 5 month old border collie mix named Tinkerbell. She was extremely quiet and calm and soft and sweet and since Nathan was concerned with getting a dog that would end up chewing on something in the RV, she looked like a good candidate for us.

So, although Nathan is still worried if we made the right choice, he let me get her. We bought her a collapsible crate that we can put her in when we need to go out and she is already crate trained. We brought her home and I gave her a warm bath outside before bringing her in. She is so quiet all she has done so far is lay down on the bed Nathan got her. She is a bit skittish but I am hoping she will get some confidence as she learns that she is with us for good. Here are a couple of pictures of her on her bed…
